Pin Wheel Cookies


1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg yolk
3 tablespoons milk
1-1/2 cups sifted purity enriched flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 ounceĀ  unsweetened chocolate

Cream shortening and add sugar gradually. Add egg yolk and milk. Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt, and add to first mixture.

Divide the dough, and to one half add melted chocolate. Roll out the white mixture and then roll out the chocolate mixture to the size. Place chocolate dough on white dough and roll like a jelly roll. Allow to stand in ice box until cool and firm. Cut into slices and bake on greased baking sheet in hot oven (400 F) for 12-15 minutes.

If desired, the dough may be divided in 3 parts, the third part being colored with any food coloring matter, or add sugar crystal to the outside of the dough befor cutting.
